An old friend and I have, thankfully, gratefully, reconnected after an unavoidable falling out decades ago. We covered the L.A. riots together as reporters, studied in Cuba on the same international journalism fellowship, and partnered up on any number of stories at the newspaper where we worked. We’ve both been through a lot since then. We both still know each other pretty well. I’m so glad he’s back in my life.
Today he suggested this stanza from “Anthony and Cleopatra” as my mantra. Yes.
“Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale
Her infinite variety. Other women cloy
The appetites they feed, but she makes hungry
Where most she satisfies.”
Thank you, Lynda! I approve of your mantra, especially after I looked up "cloy". Your mantra says to me that this reestablished friend will be a good friend "on the long and winding road."
